Angelo Henry, 36, a mixed martial arts fighter, and Deziree Auelua-Misa, 30, a mother of two, were found unresponsive inside a parked car at a San Jose State University parking garage, leaving investigators searching for answers about how they died. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner's Office identified both victims, but their causes of death have not been disclosed.
The vehicle remained parked inside the university's West Garage near South Fourth and East San Salvador streets for several hours before someone realized the occupants had not moved and alerted authorities. Campus officers attempted lifesaving measures, but both were pronounced dead at the scene after emergency responders were unable to revive them.
Henry, a Monterey County resident originally from Seaside, built a reputation as a mixed martial arts fighter and fight promoter. Reported by the San Francisco Chronicle, investigators said neither victim was affiliated with the university, no suspects are being sought, and authorities have not disclosed a cause of death.
Auelua-Misa also was from Seaside and worked as a hotel food and beverage manager while raising two children. A fundraiser created by her sister is collecting donations to help pay memorial expenses, provide long-term financial support for her children, and ease the financial burden facing the family following her sudden passing.
Friends described Henry as someone deeply involved in the local combat sports scene, mentoring fighters while promoting regional events across Monterey County. Loved ones remembered Auelua-Misa for balancing work with raising two children, saying her sudden passing has left an enormous void for relatives and close friends.
Police have not announced whether toxicology testing has been completed or when the medical examiner expects to determine the causes of death. Authorities also have not indicated that criminal activity played a role, and the investigation remains active as detectives continue reviewing what occurred before the pair were discovered inside the parked vehicle on May 23.
Circumstances behind the discovery remain under investigation while medical examiners complete their findings and detectives await additional forensic evidence. Until those results are disclosed, what happened to Henry and Auelua-Misa remains unexplained, leaving two families, longtime friends, and the Seaside community waiting for definitive answers.
