NFL Star Calais Campbell Rocked by Brother's Murder Charge in Mother's Death

Calais Campbell is grieving the loss of his mother, Nateal Campbell, after his older brother was charged in connection with her death at the family's Atlanta home. The tragedy has cast a shadow over one of the NFL's most respected veterans just weeks before another season with the Baltimore Ravens.

Concerned relatives requested a welfare check after they were unable to reach the 71-year-old. Responding officers entered her Buckhead residence, found Nateal Campbell unresponsive, and arrested 41-year-old Ciarre Campbell inside the home.

According to his booking information, Ciarre Campbell has been charged with murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a knife during the commission of a felony. He remains in the Fulton County Jail while prosecutors continue preparing the case for future hearings.

The Campbell family described Nateal Campbell as the heart of their family and asked for privacy as they navigate an overwhelming period of grief. They also shared that their faith brings comfort as they remember both Nateal Campbell and her late husband, Chuck Campbell.

Long before Calais Campbell became one of the NFL's most respected defensive linemen, Nateal Campbell helped create a home built on discipline, compassion, and perseverance. She also supported the Charles Richard Campbell Foundation, which encourages leadership, education, and personal development for young people.

The loss comes as Campbell prepares for his 19th NFL season after returning to the Baltimore Ravens. Throughout his career, he has often credited both of his parents for shaping the character that earned admiration from teammates, coaches, opponents, and fans alike.

Defense attorney Jay Abt has said Ciarre Campbell intends to challenge the allegations while asking the public to respect the family's privacy during an extraordinarily difficult time. The legal process will continue with additional appearances in Fulton County.

As messages of support arrive from across the football world, many are remembering Nateal Campbell for the strength she instilled in her children, the encouragement she offered others, and the enduring legacy reflected through the Charles Richard Campbell Foundation.
