Rashad Bilal Calls Out Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens Over Breakfast Club Interview

Rashad Bilal, co-host of the finance podcast Earn Your Leisure, criticized Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens after comments regarding Bilal's recent interview on The Breakfast Club. Bilal, speaking to Atlanta Black Star, stated that Mayor Dickens was unnecessarily escalating the public disagreement by repeatedly addressing remarks made during that media appearance.

The exchange began when Bilal and his business partner, Troy Millings, appeared on the New York-based radio show and questioned the city's assistance with promotion, permits, marketing, and logistics for their annual financial seminar, Invest Fest. In response, Mayor Dickens appeared on Kandi Burruss's podcast, Speak on It, to answer those specific complaints.

Dickens stated that he supports all creatives and entrepreneurs in the city.

Mayor Dickens addressed why he took issue with the critique on an external radio platform during a separate public appearance before discussing the matter further on Kandi Burruss's podcast, asking, "Somebody said something on the radio in New York about Atlanta?" He added, "Somebody was talking about support, talking about this and that. You know, people talk a lot."

Replying to the mayor's defense, Rashad Bilal told Atlanta Black Star that "It's a little confusing" when city leaders react defensively to founders asking for deeper civic collaboration. He noted that he and Troy Millings previously stood alongside Dickens at a joint press conference inside City Hall and that Dickens spoke at Invest Fest in 2022.

Weighing in on their syndicated morning show, radio hosts DJ Envy and Charlamagne tha God discussed the friction between city officials and the festival founders. DJ Envy noted that Earn Your Leisure was simply asking for "a little help" comparable to corporate entities, while Charlamagne tha God stated that the mayor's response "felt performative" and expressed a wish that both sides would sit down for a direct conversation.

Amid this public back-and-forth, Rashad Bilal emphasized the scale of their enterprise by telling reporters, "We bring tens of thousands of people into the city of Atlanta, filling up hotels and restaurants, so we just want mutual respect."

Invest Fest remains scheduled for Aug. 7–9 at the Georgia World Congress Center, and direct communication between festival organizers and the mayor's office resumed after municipal staffers reached out to clear the air.
