Sheinelle Jones publicly called out an airline after a travel ordeal left her scrambling to get her 13-year-old twins home from Chicago. Today show co-host and mother of three said the situation became even more stressful when she spent more than an hour waiting for customer service while trying to change their flights.
On a June 18 episode of "Today With Jenna and Sheinelle," she explained that she returned to New York while her children remained in Chicago following flight disruptions. Being separated from her children forced her to make urgent travel arrangements from another city while attempting to reach the airline for assistance.
Her frustration boiled over after repeated delays prevented her from quickly resolving the problem. According to People, Jones said she waited more than an hour before reaching a live representative and ultimately had to purchase new tickets after being told she could not apply her existing flight credit to the rebooked travel plans.
Better known for delivering headlines than making them, she said the lengthy hold time pushed her to post about the experience. A screenshot shared online showed she had been waiting nearly an hour before anyone answered the call.
Balancing national television duties with life as a single parent has defined much of the past year following the death of her husband, Uche Ojeh, who died in 2025 after battling brain cancer. Getting her twins home safely became one more demand on a mother already carrying a heavy load.
Anyone who has waited on hold for help could identify with the story because airline disruptions involving children often create far greater anxiety than ordinary delays. Missed connections, cancellations, and rebooking complications can quickly leave families scrambling for answers.
American Airlines did not immediately respond to media inquiries regarding Jones' comments. Airline records shown during the discussion identified the carrier involved in the dispute.
For Jones, the incident was less about a delayed flight than the anxiety of being separated from her children while critical travel decisions remained unresolved. Getting her twins home safely ultimately mattered far more than the hour she spent waiting for help.
