Minnesota’s postseason path now depends on timing, as Anthony Edwards works toward a return that could reshape the Western Conference semifinals against San Antonio.

Injury sustained during Game 4 against Denver forced Edwards out of the closing stretch of the first round, leaving Minnesota to finish the series without its leading scorer. Timberwolves still advanced with a 4 to 2 win, but the absence of their primary offensive option has shifted attention to recovery and availability.

As reported by Sports Illustrated, Edwards is expected to miss multiple weeks with a left knee bone bruise and hyperextension, placing his return during the series rather than at the start.

Medical evaluation confirmed no ligament damage, limiting the injury to a recovery window measured in weeks rather than months. That outcome preserves the possibility of a mid series return, depending on how quickly strength and mobility benchmarks are met.

Edwards’ absence changes how Minnesota generates offense, particularly in late game situations where shot creation becomes decisive. Supporting players carried stretches of the first round, but consistent production without him remains uncertain against a rested opponent.

San Antonio enters the matchup with a healthier roster and additional preparation time, increasing pressure on Minnesota to remain competitive early. Opening games on the road further tighten margins, especially without a primary scorer available to control pace.

Return scenarios center on Game 3 or Game 4, aligning with a minimum two week recovery window. Earlier availability remains possible but depends on rapid progress and medical clearance following on court evaluation.

Coaching staff has avoided setting a fixed timeline, emphasizing performance based readiness. Decision to activate Edwards will rely on functional strength, movement stability, and ability to handle contact without risk of aggravation.

Series structure places potential return games in Minnesota, where a home environment could amplify impact if Edwards is cleared. That timing could influence momentum in a matchup expected to hinge on small scoring margins.

Minnesota’s ability to stay within reach early will shape urgency surrounding his return. A competitive start allows for patience, while early deficits increase pressure to accelerate the timeline.

Edwards remains central to the team’s postseason ceiling, with his presence affecting scoring volume and defensive intensity. His return would immediately shift expectations across the series.

Recovery timeline has become a defining variable, placing equal weight on medical progress and early results.

Minnesota moves forward without him for now, knowing that the moment he returns could alter the direction of the series in a single night.

If Anthony Edwards ever reaches the level of Nirvana that Mike, Kobe, Bird and Majoc did; where they understood how the game is to be played and that you can't force it, it has to be organic and come to you.....oh boy. He'll be totally unguardable.
